Shield-Bearer Counseling Centers exists to fight for the hearts of people struggling with individual, marriage and family problems. Shield-Bearer is passionate about helping people live abundant lives; Shield-Bearer is committed to being a catalyst to “bring good news to the oppressed, bind the broken-hearted, and set the captives free (Isaiah 61).”

To this end Shield-Bearer endeavors to:

• Lower the divorce rate among the public and faith-based organizations
• Help married couples experience joy and faithfulness in their union
• Help teenagers grow into mature and responsible adulthood
• Help parents raise their children with consistent and noble values
• Help single parents and step-parents overcome their specific struggles

Our speaker Cherie Long, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with Shield-Bearer, is from Lancaster, CA. She received her B. A. in Psychology from Harding University and a M.S.W. (Master in Social Work) from the University of Oklahoma.

Her work history lists numerous positions dealing with social work, individual and group therapy, pastoral support groups, and hospice work. Additionally she was a Counselor for a Christian Counseling Center and authored a weekly newspaper column and monthly newsletter for parents.

She has been married to Jeff, an engineer, for more than 35 years. They have a 30 year old daughter who was born with spina bifida. Their son, Loren, 34, is a petroleum engineer. He and his wife, Julie, have two sons.
