How much do you know about the Tomball Gideons and the jail ministry here in Tomball? Join us and hear from two outstanding gentlemen the stories they have to share from their years of serving in this ministry.
Joe Thomas was born in a northeast Texas sawmill yard. His dad was killed at 37 years old in an accident at the sawmill when Joe was only 7 years old. Their Christian mom, who then worked as a waitress for $12.50 per week, raised him and his older brother. Joe moved to Tomball in 1958 and worked as a barber for Knobby's Barber Shop. He later purchased the barbershop from Knobby, changed the name to Joe's, and ran it until May 2004 when he retired. Joe has been a member of First Baptist Church in Tomball since 1958, served as Deacon since 1987, and has served on about every committee the church has had. He is a charter member of the Tomball Gideons and was responsible for visiting with past Police Chief Paul Michna, who allowed the Gideons to start a weekly jail ministry in Tomball. Since this time, the Lord has constantly drawn anywhere from 40-50 men and women per year to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
Jim Adams, one of the founding Directors of the Christian Business Luncheon, is a native of Houston that came to live in Tomball with his family. Jim, a chemical engineer, is President of American Coatings, Inc., a paint manufacturing company employing 50 people. Jim has been in the paint industry for the past 28 years. He attended TAMU on a football scholarship. He and his wife, Sue, have three children. Jim also is a Gideon and attends First Baptist Church in Tomball.
