Bobby Croft was born in Tennessee and moved to Texas at age eight. He started singing in church around age 6, encouraged by his dad who was the song leader. He started picking guitar at around 14 with his friends and played in local bands around Houston. In 1975 he stopped playing because he just got tired of the joints - he wasn't a drinker and didn't want to be around the drunks anymore.
In 1986 Bobby resumed his singing career- this time at the Texas Opry. When he learned there was no smoking or drinking at the Opry, he liked it too much to quit. In June of 2003 Bobby was diagnosed with vocal cancer and couldn't speak above a whisper. He began taking radiation treatments and by the grace of God and his guidance to the doctors Bobby was declared cancer-free in September of 2003. He said his first words out loud on October 24, 2003.
He was able to sing weakly at his 40th anniversary party on November 1st. The song was "Love Me Tender" which he had always sung to his wife each year on their anniversary.
