7/12/22 | Paul Marshall

Paul was born in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. His parents were Salvation Army Officers serving the migrant workers in the sugar cane and pineapple fields. Growing up, Paul attended
11 different schools in 7 different cities since his family moved frequently for his parents’ work.

Choosing Forgiveness

Paul graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, and then served three Aircraft Carrier tours in Vietnam, flying over 100 combat and combat support missions. He entered the Navy Reserves in 1975 and remained until his retirement in 1992 with the rank of Captain.

As a civilian, Paul worked in marketing and business development for major architect, engineering, and construction companies. His family’s life was dramatically changed with the violent murder of his youngest daughter, Wende, by her fiancé. Paul recently had his book published – it is titled Choosing Forgiveness (Trusting God to see us through the tragedy of our daughter’s murder).

He wrote this book to share the changes he went through from hatred and revenge to finally arriving at forgiveness. A journey made possible, he writes, by the absolute help of his strong Christian faith and the loving and caring of a devoted family and many loyal friends.

Today, Paul enjoys singing in the church choir, helping young people in their Christian walk, playing league tennis, and taking daily walks with the family’s three adopted dogs, two of which belonged to Wende.
